The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 About the awesome tiding [of resurrection,] 2 Concerning which they are in disagreement. 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 Surely, they will soon find out the truth! 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs. 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 The Day of Judgment will certainly be the final appointment. 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. 20 Indeed hell is lying in ambush. 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 They will not feel cold nor taste any drink 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 a fitting requital, 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
