Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Kaf Ha Ya Ain Suad. 1 Commemorate the beneficence of your Lord on Zachariah, His devotee, 2 When he quietly called his Lord 3 He submitted, “O my Lord – my bones have become weak and old age shines forth from my head, and O my Lord, I have never been disappointed in my prayer to you.” 4 But I fear my relatives after me; and my wife is barren. So grant me a successor as a favour from You 5 “He being my successor and the heir of the Descendants of Yaqub (Jacob); and my Lord, make him a cherished* one.” (* Make him a Prophet among the Descendants of Israel.) 6 "O Zachariah," (it was) said, "We give you good news of a son by name of John.' To none have We attributed the name before." 7 He said, "Lord, how can I have a son? My wife is barren and I have reached an extremely old age". 8 He (the angel) said, “So it is; your Lord says, ‘This is easy for Me – in fact I created you before this, at a time when you did not exist.’” 9 He said: "O Lord, give me a token." "Though sound," He answered, "you will not talk to any one for three nights running." 10 Then he came forth to his people from the sanctuary, and he beckoned unto them. hallow your Lord morning and evening. 11 (And it was said unto his son): O John! Hold fast the Scripture. And we gave him wisdom when a child, 12 And (made him) sympathetic to men as a mercy (or a grant) from Us, and pure from sins [i.e. Yahya (John)] and he was righteous, 13 And kind to his parents, and he was not overbearing or rebellious. 14 So Peace on him the day he was born the day that he dies and the day that he will be raised up to life (again)! 15
