The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Indeed, there came upon the human a period of time when he was an unremembered thing. 1 We have created the human from a (sperm) drop, a mixture, testing him; We made him to hear and see. 2 We showed him the Way: whether he be grateful or ungrateful (rests on his will). 3 We have prepared for unbelievers chains and collars and a blazing fire. 4 Verily the pious shall drink of a cup whereof the admixture is like unto camphor. 5 This will be a gushing spring wherefrom Allah's servants shall drink wine, a spring from which they will take out channels wherever they wish. 6 The servants of God fulfill their vows and are afraid of the day in which there will be widespread terror. 7 And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, 8 "We only feed you for the sake of God and we do not want any reward or thanks from you. 9 Surely we fear from our Lord a stern, distressful day. 10 And so, God will preserve them from the woes of that Day, and will bestow on them brightness and joy, 11 and recompense them for their patience with a Garden, and robes of silk. 12 In that [garden] they will on couches recline, and will know therein neither [burning] sun nor cold severe, 13 since its [blissful] shades will come down low over them, and low will hang down its clusters of fruit, most easy to reach. 14 Goblets of silver are brought round for them, and beakers (as) of glass 15 crystal-like, [but] of silver - the measure whereof they alone will determine. 16 And they will be given to drink there of a Cup (of Wine) mixed with Zanjabil,- 17 from a spring named salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall surround them, waiting upon them; when you see them, you would think they are scattered pearls. 19 And when thou lookest them thou shalt behold delight and a dominion magnificent. 20 They will have fine green silk and brocade, and they will be decked with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will provide them with a drink of pure wine. 21 [And it will be said], "Indeed, this is for you a reward, and your effort has been appreciated." 22
