The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
When the sunlight is rolled up. 1 and when the stars lose their light, 2 And when the mountains are removed 3 The ten-month pregnant female camels are abandoned, 4 when the savage beasts are gathered 5 When the oceans surge and swell, 6 And when souls are united, 7 and when the female infant buried alive is asked 8 Upon what sin was she killed for. 9 When the scrolls are laid open; 10 And when the heaven shall be stripped off and taken away from its place; 11 When the Blazing Fire is kindled to fierce heat; 12 and Paradise is brought near, 13 Then every soul shall know that which it hath presented. 14 So verily, I swear by the planets that recede (i.e. disappear during the day and appear during the night). 15 And by the planets that move swiftly and hide themselves, 16 And by the night as it closes in 17 And the morning when it brightens, 18 Verily this is the word of a most honourable Messenger, 19 The processor of strength, having an honorable place with the Lord of the Dominion, 20 Obeyed one; then trustworthy. 21 And your comrade is not mad. 22 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) high up on the horizon in his original form 23 And he is not avid of the Unseen. 24 And the Qur’an is not the recitation of Satan the outcast. 25 Where then will you go? 26 This is naught else than a reminder unto creation, 27 To whomsoever among you who wills to walk straight, 28 And ye shall not will unless it be that Allah, the Lord of the worlds, willeth. 29
