The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the sky is rent asunder 1 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should; 2 And when the earth is spread out 3 And has cast out all that was in it and became empty, 4 And attentive to her Lord in fear! 5 O man! verily thou art toiling toward thy Lord a painful toiling, and art about to meet Him. 6 Then as for he who is given his record in his right hand, 7 Soon will his account be taken by an easy reckoning, 8 And will return unto his folk in joy. 9 And as to him who is given his book behind his back, 10 shall cry for “perdition,” 11 And he shall roast into a Blaze. 12 Verily, he was among his people in joy! 13 and surely thought he would never return (to his Lord). 14 Yes indeed; his Lord had sight of him. 15 So indeed I call to witness the evening twilight, 16 by the night and all that it envelops; 17 And by the moon when she is at the full, 18 you shall proceed onwards from stage to stage. 19 What, then, is amiss with them that they will not believe [in a life to come]? 20 Why, when the Quran is recited to them, do they not prostrate themselves? ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 God is quite aware of what they are storing in their hearts. 23 So give them tidings of a painful punishment, 24 Except those who believe and do good; for them is a reward that shall never be cut off. 25
