The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you who are clothed! 1 Rise up and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 purify your garments; 4 stay away from sins 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he looked, 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
