He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 So you are after him! 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and fearfully, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
