Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 this land in which thou art free to dwell 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 Assuredly We have created man in trouble. 4 Does he think that none has power over him! 5 He saith: I have wasted riches plenteous. 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Did We not give him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways? 10 But he has not broken through the difficult pass. 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 (It is) the setting free of a slave, 13 And to feed in the day of hunger. 14 of an orphaned relative 15 Or of a homeless needy person! 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 Such are they that have attained to righteousness; 18 But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the Companions of the Left, 19 On them is fire closed over. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
