The Prophets (Al-Anbyaa')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ NEAR HAS COME the reckoning for men, but they turn away in remissness. 1 Never cometh there unto them a new reminder from their Lord but they listen to it while they play, 2 With hearts preoccupied. And they confer in secret. The wrong-doers say: Is this other than a mortal like you? Will ye then succumb to magic when ye see (it)? 3 He said: "My Lord knows whatever is spoken in the heavens and the earth. He hears all and knows everything." 4 They have said, "It, (the Quran), is only the result of some confused dreams. He is only a poet. He should show us some miracles, as the ancient Prophets had done." 5 Not one township that We destroyed before them believed. Would they, then, believe? 6 Never did We send a message before you but through a man, whom We inspired. If you do not know, then ask the keepers of the oracles of God. 7 We did not give them bodies that needed no food, nor were they to live forever. 8 Then We made good unto them the promise; so We delivered them and those whom We willed, and We destroyed the extravagant. 9 We have revealed a Book to you which is admonition for you. Will you not then understand? 10
