He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 So you are after him! 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And whereas he fears, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 Olives and dates, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
