Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn; 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
