The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the sun and its brightness 1 And the moon when she followeth him, 2 Consider the day as it reveals the world, 3 and the night as it veils it darkly! 4 And the heaven and Him Who made it, 5 by the earth and that (Power) which spread it out 6 by the soul and Who shaped it 7 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- 8 He who purifies it will prosper, 9 And indeed he fails who corrupts his ownself (i.e. disobeys what Allah has ordered by rejecting the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism or by following polytheism, etc. or by doing every kind of evil wicked deeds). 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 when the most wretched of them uprose, 12 So the Noble Messenger of Allah said to them, “Stay away from the she camel of Allah, and from its turn to drink.” 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 And for Him is no fear of its consequences. 15
