The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse. 4 For him that gives and fears (Allah) 5 And believes in Al-Husna. 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 Who belieth and turneth away. 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
