The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Star when it plunges, 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 and endowed with wisdom; who in time manifested himself; 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah – see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 And assuredly he saw him at another descent. 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it). 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
