The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 The Companions of the Right 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 And water gushing, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 and raised couches 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 and made them virgins, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
