The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Of what ask they? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse, 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And have made your sleep as a thing for rest. 9 And We made the night to be a covering, 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 and We appointed a blazing lamp 13 And from the wind-driven clouds We send down waters pouring in abundance, 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 And gardens of thick growth. 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Indeed hell is lying in ambush. 21 a return for the insolent, 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 Except hot boiling water and hot pus discharged from the people of hell. 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
