The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the sky has split [open] 1 And it hearkeneth to its Lord, and is duteous. 2 And when the earth is stretched, 3 And casts forth what is within it and becomes (clean) empty, 4 And attentive to her Lord in fear! 5 O mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion and will meet it. 6 Then as to him who is given his book in his right hand, 7 Soon an easy account will be taken from him. 8 And return to his people in happiness. 9 And as to him who shall be given his book from behind his back 10 He will invoke (his) destruction, 11 And enter into burning fire. 12 Once, he lived joyfully among his family 13 for he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Yea! surely his Lord does ever see him. 15 So I swear by the afterglow of sunset; 16 and the night and what it envelops 17 And the moon when it grows full, 18 you shall surely ride stage after stage. 19 What aileth them, then, that they believe not 20 And that, when the Qur'an is read unto them, they prostrate not them-selves! ۩ 21 Yea those who disbelieve belie. 22 And Allah knoweth best what they are hiding. 23 Hence, give them the tiding of grievous suffering [in the life to come] 24 except to those who believe, and do righteous deeds, for theirs is an unfailing recompense. 25
