Al-Balad

The Town (Al-Balad)

20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

۞ No, I swear by this country (Mecca), 1 And you are free to live upon it, -- 2 and I swear by the parent and his offspring: 3 that We have created the human being to face a great deal of hardship. 4 Thinketh he, that none hath power over him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not appointed to him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And showed him two highways (of good and evil)? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 (It is:) freeing the bondman; 13 Or the giving of food in a day of hunger 14 to an orphan near of kin; 15 or to a needy person in distress; 16 And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. 17 These are the fellows of the righthand. 18 As for those who rejected Our Signs, they are the People of the Left Hand. 19 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). 20

True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
