a multitude of the ancients, 39 And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations). 40 BUT AS FOR those who have persevered in evil - what of those who have persevered in evil? 41 In fierce hot wind and boiling water, 42 And the shade of black smoke. 43 Neither cool nor agreeable. 44 Indeed they were among favours before this. 45 And they used to persist in the great violation, 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 “And also our forefathers?” 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 "All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known. 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 shall all eat from the Tree of al-Zaqqum, 52 You shall fill your bellies with it, 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 and you will drink as the lapping of thirsty camels. 55 This shall be their hospitality on the Day of Doom. 56 We! it is We Who created you: wherefore confess ye not? 57 Have you considered the seed? 58 Is it you who create it (i.e. make this semen into a perfect human being), or are We the Creator? 59 We! it is We Who have decreed death unto you all. And We are not to be outrun. 60 From replacing you with others or raising you in a way you do not know. 61 You have known the first creation, then why do you not reflect? 62 Ponder upon the soil you till, 63 Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We willed, surely We would make it chaff, so that ye would be left wondering. 65 crying, "We have been left to suffer loss. 66 Aye! we are deprived! 67 Have ye observed the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you who caused it to descend from the cloud, or is it We Who cause it to descend? 69 If We so pleased, We certainly could make it salty. Why, then, are you not grateful? 70 Have you thought about the fire you kindle? 71 Did you make its timber to grow, or did We make it? 72 We have made it a reminder, and a blessing to the traveler. 73 Then glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
