And convey unto them the story of Abraham 69 When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?" 70 They said, "We worship idols, and we keep squatting in seclusion before them." 71 He asked, "Do they hear you when you call to them? 72 or do they cause you any benefit or harm?" 73 They replied, "But we found our fathers doing the same." 74 He said: "Do you observe that which you have been worshipping, 75 you and those ancient forebears of yours? 76 are my enemies? Not so the Lord of the Universe. 77 He created me and He will guide me. 78 And it is He who feeds me and gives me drink. 79 He who cures me when I am ill; 80 And who will cause me to die and then bring me to life 81 and whom I am eager shall forgive me my sins on the Day of Recompense' 82 My Lord, give me judgment, and join me with the righteous. 83 give me a good name among later generations; 84 and make me of those who will inherit the Garden of Bliss, 85 and forgive my father, for he was among the astray. 86 Do not degrade me on the Day when they are resurrected. 87 the Day when wealth and sons will be of no avail, 88 "But only he (will prosper) that brings to Allah a sound heart; 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 And the Fierce Fire shall be made apparent unto the seduced ones. 91 It will be said to them: 'Where is that you worshipped, 92 other than Allah? Do they help you or even help themselves' 93 Then they will be thrown on their faces into the (Fire), They and the Ghawun (devils, and those who were in error). 94 and Satan's legions, all together. 95 And they will say, when they are quarrelling therein: 96 By Allah, we were truly in a manifest error, 97 when we assigned to you a position equal to that of the Lord of the Universe. 98 It is none but those steeped in guilt who led us into this error, 99 and now we have none to intercede on our behalf, 100 nor a loving friend. 101 Would that we might return again, and be among the believers' 102 Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 103 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Ever Compassionate. 104
