And when We commanded the angels, “Prostrate before Adam” – so they all prostrated, except Iblis; he refused. 116 and thereupon We said: "O Adam! Verily, this is a foe unto thee and thy wife: so let him not drive the two of you out of this garden and render thee unhappy. 117 "There is therein (enough provision) for thee not to go hungry nor to go naked, 118 “And that you never feel thirsty nor hot sunshine hurt you.” 119 Then Satan whispered to him; he said, "O Adam, shall I direct you to the tree of eternity and possession that will not deteriorate?" 120 So they both ate from it – thereupon their shame became manifest to them, and they started applying on themselves the leaves of heaven; and Adam lapsed in obeying his Lord, so did not reach his goal. (Of achieving immortality) 121 Thereafter his Lord accepted him, and relented toward him, and guided him. 122 'Both of you, together, go down out of it (the Garden) each of you an enemy to the other' He said: 'but, if My Guidance comes to you, whosoever follows My Guidance shall neither go astray nor be unprosperous; 123 but whosoever turns away from My remembrance, his life shall be narrow and on the Day of Resurrection We shall raise him blind' 124 He shall say, 'O my Lord, why hast thou raised me blind, and I was wont to see?' 125 (God) will say: "Because Our signs came to you, but you disregarded them. So shall We disregard you this day." 126 And thus do We recompense him who transgresses beyond bounds and believes not in the Signs of his Lord: and the Penalty of the Hereafter is far more grievous and more enduring. 127 So did they not gain guidance from (knowing) how many generations We have destroyed before them, among whose dwellings they walk? Indeed in it are signs for men of intellect. 128
