And certainly We created man of clay that gives forth sound, of black mud fashioned in shape. 26 And created the jinn before him, from smokeless fire. 27 And recall what time thy Lord said unto the angels: verily I am about to create a man from ringing clay of loam moulded. 28 And when I have fashioned him and breathed into him of My spirit, bow before him in homage;" 29 then the angels all prostrated themselves together. 30 save Iblis; he refused to be among those bowing. 31 He said: 'iblis, what is the matter with you, that you do you not prostrate yourself' 32 He said, "Never would I prostrate to a human whom You created out of clay from an altered black mud." 33 Said He, 'Then go thou forth hence; thou art accursed. 34 and the curse shall be on you till the Day of Judgement!" 35 He said: My Lord! then respite me till the time when they are raised. 36 He said: So surely you are of the respited ones 37 till that Appointed Day." 38 He said, “My Lord! I swear by the fact that You sent me astray, I shall distract them in the earth, and I shall lead all of them astray.” 39 Except, among them, Your chosen servants." 40 Said Allah, “This path* leads straight towards Me.” (* The path of the chosen bondmen.) 41 "For over My servants no authority shalt thou have, except such as put themselves in the wrong and follow thee." 42 And verily Hell is the place promised unto them all. 43 To it are seven gates: for each of those gates is a (special) class (of sinners) assigned. 44
