And when Abraham said to his father and his people, 'Surely I am quit of that you serve, 26 except for the One who has created me and will guide me". 27 And Ibrahim kept this declaration among his progeny, in order that they may desist. 28 In fact, We allowed them and their fathers to enjoy themselves until the truth and a strong Messenger came to them. 29 But when the Truth came to them, they said: "This is sorcery, and we do reject it." 30 And they say: Why was not this Quran revealed to a man of importance in the two towns? 31 But is it they who distribute thy Sustainer's grace? [Nay, as] it is We who distribute their means of livelihood among them in the life of this world, and raise some of them by degrees above others, to the end that they might avail themselves of one another's help - [so, too, it is We who bestow gifts of the spirit upon whomever We will]: and this thy Sustainer's grace is better than all [the worldly wealth] that they may amass. 32 And were it not that all people had been a single nation, We would certainly have assigned to those who disbelieve in the Beneficent Allah (to make) of silver the roofs of their houses and the stairs by which they ascend. 33 And silver doors for their houses, and silver couches whereon they recline, 34 And also adornments of gold. But all this were nothing but conveniences of the present life: The Hereafter, in the sight of thy Lord is for the Righteous. 35
