The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 And a few of later ages, 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 And shade extended 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 and upraised couches. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 and made them virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 For those on the right hand; 38
