The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn! 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 and who still desires more. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he looked around, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
