Thus, too, have We vouchsafed revelation unto Moses aforetime, and thereupon disputes arose about it. And [then, as now,] had it not been for a decree that had already gone forth from thy Sustainer, all would indeed have been decided between them [from the outset]. As it is, behold, they [who will not believe in this divine writ] are in grave doubt, amounting to suspicion, about what it portends. 45 Whoever acts righteously does so for his own good and whoever commits evil does so against his soul. Your Lord is not unjust to His servants. 46 ۞ The knowledge of the Last Day is directed towards Him; and no fruit comes out from its cover, and nor does any female conceive or give birth, but with His knowledge; and on the day when He will call out to them, “Where are My partners?” They will say, “We have told you that none among us can testify.” 47 And those they used to worship will leave them in the lurch, and they will realise there is no escape for them. 48 Man never tires of asking for the good things of life; but if evil fortune befalls him, he abandons all hope, giving himself up to despair. 49 And if We let him taste mercy from Us after hardship that has visited him, he surely says, 'This is mine; I think not the Hour is coming. If I am returned to my Lord, surely the reward most fair with Him will be mine.' Then We shall tell the unbelievers the things they have done, and assuredly We shall let them taste a harsh chastisement. 50 And when We favour man, he turns away and goes back afar; and when some hardship reaches him, he comes with a vast prayer! 51 Say: "Just think. If this is from God and you deny it, who will be in greater error than he who is in open dissent?" 52 We shall show them Our signs in the universe and within themselves, until it becomes clear to them that this is the Truth. Is it not enough that your Lord is the witness of all things? 53 Yet they still doubt that they will ever meet their Lord. Surely, He encompasses all things. 54
