Exodus (Al-Hashr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth halloweth Allah, and He is the Mighty, the Wise. 1 It was He who turned those People of the Book who denied the truth out of their homes in the first banishment. You never thought they would go, and they thought their strongholds would protect them against God. But God came upon them from where they least expected and cast such terror into their hearts that their houses were pulled down by their own hands as well as by the hands of the believers. Learn a lesson, then, you who are endowed with insight. 2 Had it been that Allah had not decreed that they should be dispersed, He would have surely punished them in this world. And in the Everlasting Life the punishment of the Fire awaits them, 3 That is because they opposed Allah and His apostle, and whosoever opposeth Allah, then verily Allah is Stern in chastisement. 4 Whatever palm trees you cut down or left standing on their roots, it was by God's leave, so that He might disgrace the transgressors. 5 What Allah has bestowed on His Messenger (and taken away) from them - for this ye made no expedition with either cavalry or camelry: but Allah gives power to His messengers over any He pleases: and Allah has power over all things. 6 That which Allah giveth as spoil unto His messenger from the people of the townships, it is for Allah and His messenger and for the near of kin and the orphans and the needy and the wayfarer, that it become not a commodity between the rich among you. And whatsoever the messenger giveth you, take it. And whatsoever he forbiddeth, abstain (from it). And keep your duty to Allah. Lo! Allah is stern in reprisal. 7 And (it is) for the poor fugitives who have been driven out from their homes and their belongings, who seek bounty from Allah and help Allah and His messenger. They are the loyal. 8 And those before them who had made their dwelling in the abode (the City of Madinah), and because of their belief love those who have emigrated to them; they do not find any (envy) in their chests for what they have been given and prefer them above themselves, even though they themselves have a need. Whosoever is saved from the greed of his own soul, they are the ones who win. 9 And those who came after them say: "Our Lord! Forgive us and our brethren who have preceded us in Faith, and put not in our hearts any hatred against those who have believed. Our Lord! You are indeed full of kindness, Most Merciful. 10
