The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A questioner asked of a chastisement about to fall 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 From Allah, Owner of the ascending steps. 3 The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years, 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off, 6 but We see it to be very near. 7 The day when the sky will become as molten copper, 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend, 10 though they shall be within sight of each other. The guilty one will gladly ransom himself from the torment of that Day by sacrificing his own children, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 And his kin that sheltered him. 13 and whosoever is in the earth, all together, so that then it might deliver him. 14 But no! There is a raging blaze 15 snatching away the scalp, 16 calling him who drew back and turned away, 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)! 18 ۞ Truly man was created very impatient;- 19 Irritable (discontented) when evil touches him; 20 but when they are fortunate, they become niggardly 21 Except the observers of prayer - 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 and in whose possessions there is a due share, acknowledged [by them,] 24 For the needy and those dispossessed, 25 And those who testify to the Day of Requital. 26 And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord - 27 Indeed the punishment of their Lord is not a thing to be unafraid of! 28 and guard their private parts 29 Save in regard to their spouses or those whom their right hands own; so verily they are not blameworthy 30 but those who go beyond that limit are transgressors; 31 And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive 32 and perform their witnessings, 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 They will be honoured in the Gardens of Bliss. 35
