The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And stay away from idols. 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 and who still desires more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
