He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 So you are after him! 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
