The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
CONSIDER Mount Sinai! 1 And by oath of a passage, written 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 by the House inhabited 4 And [by] the heaven raised high 5 And the sea kept filled, 6 Indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely take place. 7 No one can avert it. 8 On the Day whereon the heaven will shake with an awful shaking. 9 and the mountains will move with [an awesome] movement. 10 Then woe, that Day, to the deniers, 11 such as play at plunging, 12 On the Day whereon they will be pushed into Hell-Fire with a dreadful push. 13 This is the Fire which you used to belie. 14 Is it magic or do you not still see? 15 “Enter it now whether you patiently bear it or are impatient it is the same for you; for you is a recompense only for what you used to do.” 16 Surely those who guard (against evil) shall be in gardens and bliss 17 Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. 18 "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." 19 Reclining upon couches ranged in rows; and We shall espouse them to wide-eyed houris. 20 And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. 21 And We shall succour them with fruits and flesh such as they desire 22 There they shall pass from hand to hand a (wine) cup, free from any Laghw (dirty, false, evil vague talk between them), and free from sin (because it will be legal for them to drink). 23 ۞ And they will be waited upon by [immortal] youths, [as if they were children] of their own, [as pure] as if they were pearls hidden in their shells. 24 And one of them turned towards the other, questioning. 25 They will say: verily we were aforetime, midst our household, ever in dread. 26 But Allah hath been gracious unto us and hath preserved us from the torment of the breath of Fire. 27 We used to pray to Him erstwhile; He is the just and merciful. 28
