The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 (a chastisement meant) for the unbelievers, one which none can avert; 2 From God, the Lord of the steps (of progression), 3 The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years, 4 But be patient (O Muhammad) with a patience fair to see. 5 Verily they behold it afar off. 6 while We think that it is near at hand. 7 [It will take place] on a Day when the sky will be like molten lead, 8 and the mountains shall be as plucked wool-tufts, 9 and no friend will ask about his friend, 10 Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children 11 And his wife and his brother, 12 and his kinsfolk who had stood by him, 13 and all persons of the earth, if only he could thus save himself. 14 But no! There is a raging blaze 15 will strip-off the flesh 16 It shall call him who turneth back and backslideth. 17 and amassed wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Truly man was created very impatient;- 19 Irritable (discontented) when evil touches him; 20 but when they are fortunate, they become niggardly 21 except those that pray 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 those who give a due share of their wealth 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 and who accept as true the [coming of the] Day of Judgment; 26 and are fearful of the punishment of their Lord; 27 surely the chastisement of their Lord is a thing none can feel secure from – 28 And those who guard their chastity, 29 except in regard to their spouses and those whom their right hands possess, for in regard to them they are not reproachable, 30 but any who seeks to go beyond that, it is indeed they who are the transgressors, 31 And those who respect their trusts and covenants; 32 And those who stand by their testimony 33 and are steadfast in their prayers. 34 all these shall live honourably in the Gardens. 35
