He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 to a rich man, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 And We made corn grow, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 fruits, and grass. 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
