The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 We shall facilitate the path to bliss 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
