۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 Instead of Allah, and lead them to the path to hell; 23 And detain them, for they will be questioned." 24 What aileth you that ye help not one another? 25 But they, that Day, are in surrender. 26 They will turn upon one another, and question one another. 27 They shall say: Surely you used to come to us from the right side. 28 But they reply: 'Rather, you were not believers. 29 We had no power over you. You were a rebellious people, 30 So the sentence of our Lord has come to pass against us: (now) we shall surely taste; 31 we perverted you, indeed, we were perverts' 32 So all of them on that day are sharers in the chastisement. 33 that is how We deal with evil-doers. 34 Whenever it was said to them: “There is no true deity apart from Allah,” they waxed proud 35 And they used to say, “Shall we forsake our Gods upon the sayings of a mad poet?” 36 "Surely, he has brought the truth, confirming those who were sent before; 37 Verily ye are going to taste a torment afflictive. 38 And be rewarded but only for what you had done, 39 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 40 Those! theirs shall be a provision known: 41 Fruits of every kind, and they will be honoured 42 In Gardens of Felicity, 43 On couches, facing one another. 44 Round shall be passed a cup unto them filled with limpid drink: 45 white, sparkling (wine), a delight to the drinkers. 46 but not harmful or intoxicating. 47 And with them maidens of modest look and large lustrous eyes, 48 As though they were eggs hidden. 49 Then shall some of them advance to others, questioning each other. 50 One of them speaks thus: "Behold, I had [on earth] a close companion 51 who was wont to ask [me,] 'Why - art thou really one of those who believe it to be true 52 After we are dead and have become all dust and bones shall we still be requited?' 53 (The man) said: "Will you look down?" 54 He looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 He said: "By Allah! thou wast little short of bringing me to perdition! 56 "Had it not been for the Grace of my Lord, I would certainly have been among those brought forth (to Hell)." 57 (Allah informs about that true believer that he said): "Are we then not to die (any more)? 58 "Except our first death, and that we shall not be punished?" 59 Truly, this is a great victory!" 60 For the like of this then let the workers work. 61 Is this better or the tree of Zaqqum 62 For We have truly made it (as) a trial for the wrong-doers. 63 Verily, it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-fire, 64 Its crop is as it were the heads of devils 65 And lo! they verily must eat thereof, and fill (their) bellies therewith. 66 then on top of it they have a brew of boiling water, 67 And once again: Verily, the blazing fire is their ultimate goal 68 Indeed they found their fathers astray. 69 But they make haste (to follow) in their footsteps. 70 And assuredly many of the ancients went astray before them, 71 and We sent among them warners; 72 Then see how was the end of those warned, 73 EXCEPT for God's true servants, [most people are apt to go astray.] 74
