He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 when the blind came to him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
