Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 Many a face will be disgraced on that day. 2 Laboring, toiling, 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 that will neither nourish nor satisfy their hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 With their endeavour well pleased. 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 And arranged carpets. 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 So do they not see the camel – how it has been created? 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted and fixed firm? 19 And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 Verily, to Us will be their return; 25 Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account. 26
