۞ And relate to them the account of the two men – to one We gave two gardens of grapes, and covered them with date-palms and kept farms between them. 32 Each of the two gardens yielded its produce and did not fail in the least and We made a river to gush through them, 33 and so he had fruit in abundance. While conversing with his companion, he said, "I am wealthier than you are, and have a bigger following!" 34 And having [thus] sinned against himself, he entered his garden, saying, "I do not think that this will ever perish! 35 And I do not think the Hour will occur. And even if I should be brought back to my Lord, I will surely find better than this as a return." 36 His friend said to him, "How can you disbelieve in the One who turned clay into sperm out of which He created you? 37 But as for me, He, Allah, is my Lord, and I do not associate anyone with my Lord. 38 And [he continued:] "Alas, if thou hadst but said, on entering thy garden, 'Whatever God wills [shall come to pass, for] there is no power save with God!' Although, as thou seest, I have less wealth and offspring than thou, 39 yet it may be that my Lord will give me better than thy garden, and loose on it a thunderbolt out of heaven, so that in the morning it will be a slope of dust, 40 Or its waters should sink down into the ground so that you are unable to find it. 41 And [thus it happened:] his fruitful gardens were encompassed [by ruin,] and there he was, wringing his hands over all that he had spent on that which now lay waste, with its trellises caved in; and he could but say: "Oh, would that I had not attributed divine powers to any but my Sustainer!" 42 And he had no troop of men to help him as against Allah, nor could he save himself. 43 The only support is from God, the True God. He is the best in rewarding and the best in respect of the final outcome. 44
