He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 to a rich man, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And he feareth 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
