The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the sky is rent asunder, 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 And when the earth has been extended 3 and casts forth what is in it, and voids itself, 4 And obeys its Lord and it must. 5 O man! verily thou art toiling toward thy Lord a painful toiling, and art about to meet Him. 6 So whoever is given his record of deeds in his right hand – 7 shall have an easy reckoning 8 And he will return to his family rejoicing. 9 But as for he who is given his record behind his back, 10 He will invoke (his) destruction, 11 And he shall roast into a Blaze. 12 They lived among their people joyfully 13 He verily deemed that he would never return (unto Allah). 14 Yes indeed; his Lord had sight of him. 15 Oh, I swear by the afterglow of sunset, 16 And the night and all it gathers, 17 by the moon, in its fullness 18 That ye shall journey on from plane to plane. 19 What, then, is amiss with them that they will not believe [in a life to come]? 20 And when the Qur'an is read to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 Indeed, those who are bent on denying the truth reject it -- 22 and Allah knows very well what they gather. 23 So give them news of painful punishment, 24 except to those who believe, and do righteous deeds, for theirs is an unfailing recompense. 25
