The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 He created man from a clot of blood. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 who taught by the pen, 4 The One Who taught man all what he did not know. 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - 13 Does he not realize that God sees him? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
