۞ (And it is said unto the angels): Assemble those who did wrong, together with their wives and what they used to worship 22 "Instead of Allah, and lead them on to the way of flaming Fire (Hell); 23 And halt them so that they may be questioned. 24 'But what is the matter with you that you cannot help one another?,'" 25 But they, that Day, are in surrender. 26 They will then turn towards each other (and start wrangling). 27 They say: Lo! ye used to come unto us, imposing, (swearing that ye spoke the truth). 28 Those say, 'No; on the contrary, you were not believers; 29 And we had over you no authority, but ye were a people exorbitant. 30 So the sentence of our Lord has come to pass against us: (now) we shall surely taste; 31 We mislead you and we ourselves had also gone astray." 32 So this day they all are partners in the punishment. 33 That is how We deal with sinners. 34 Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allah," were arrogant 35 And were saying, "Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet?" 36 Not in the least. He has brought the truth and confirmed the other messengers. 37 Now certainly you shall be tasting the painful chastisement, 38 although you shall not be requited for aught but what you were wont to do. 39 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 40 for them awaits a known provision, 41 fruits of various kinds; and they shall be honoured, 42 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise), 43 On thrones, facing each other. 44 With cups from a flowing stream being passed around, 45 White, delicious to those who drink. 46 There will neither be any harm in it for their body nor will it intoxicate their mind. 47 Theirs shall be wide-eyed maidens with bashful, restrained glances, 48 who are as chaste as sheltered eggs. 49 Then one turned to the other in an enquiry. 50 A speaker among them will say, "Indeed, I had a companion [on earth] 51 “Who used to tell me, ‘Do you believe it is true?’ – 52 "(That) when we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed (be raised up) to receive reward or punishment (according to our deeds)?" 53 [And] he adds: "Would you like to look [and see him]?" 54 He looked down and saw (his friend) in the midst of Hell. 55 He shall say: By Allah! you had almost caused me to perish; 56 And but for the favour of my lord, I should have been of those brought forward. 57 (Allah informs about that true believer that he said): "Are we then not to die (any more)? 58 [again,] beyond our previous death, and that we shall never [again] be made to suffer? 59 “This is, most certainly, the supreme success.” 60 For the like of it should the workers work. 61 Is this not a better reward than the tree of Zaqqum 62 Verily, We have caused it to be a trial for evildoers: 63 Indeed it is a tree that sprouts from the base of hell. 64 The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of Shayatin (devils); 65 on it they shall feed, and with it they shall fill their bellies. 66 And behold, above all this they will be confounded with burning despair! 67 then their return is unto Hell. 68 They found their fathers erring, 69 So in their footsteps they are being hastened on. 70 And indeed before them, most of the former people went astray. 71 But We sent aforetime, among them, (messengers) to admonish them;- 72 See then the end of those who were warned, 73 Other than the chosen creatures of God. 74
