Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the dawn, 1 and the ten nights! 2 and the even and the odd, 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 Join My worshipers and 29 Enter then My garden." 30
