We did not create heaven and earth and all that is between them in vain. That is the opinion of those who deny the truth. Woe betide those who deny the truth, when they are cast into the Fire -- 27 Or should we treat those who believe and do righteous deeds like corrupters in the land? Or should We treat those who fear Allah like the wicked? 28 This is a blessed Book which We sent down to you [Muhammad], for people to ponder over its messages, and for those with understanding to take heed. 29 To David We gave Solomon (for a son),- How excellent in Our service! Ever did he turn (to Us)! 30 [Mention] when there were exhibited before him in the afternoon the poised [standing] racehorses. 31 Therefore Sulaiman said, “I cherish the love of these horses*, out of remembrance of my Lord”; he then ordered them to be raced until they vanished in a curtain out of sight. (To be used in holy war.) 32 (Then he said): Bring them back to me, and fell to slashing (with his sword their) legs and necks. 33 Indeed, We tried Solomon and placed a body (of a child) upon his throne, then he repented. 34 He prayed, "Lord forgive me! Grant me such power as no one after me will have -- You are the Most Generous Provider." 35 So We made the wind subservient unto him, setting fair by his command whithersoever he intended. 36 and also the jinn, every kind of builder and diver 37 And others bound in fetters. 38 (Saying): This is Our gift, so bestow thou, or withhold, without reckoning. 39 And he has a place near to Us, and a fine return. 40
