The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 Then none will be able to deny its occurrence. 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 Who will be honoured 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining face to face. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and shade extended, 30 And water everflowing. 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 We have made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 for those on the Right, 38
