A numerous company from among the first, 39 And a numerous company from among the last. 40 BUT AS FOR those who have persevered in evil - what of those who have persevered in evil? 41 Will be in the scorching wind and boiling water, 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 which will neither be cool nor soothing. 44 For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury), 45 and would persist in heinous sinning, 46 And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?- 47 Will our ancient forefathers be resurrected too? 48 Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Lo! those of old and those of later time 49 will indeed be gathered together at a fixed time on an appointed Day. 50 Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers, 51 will eat from the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 and fill your bellies with it, 53 And upon it, you will drink the hot boiling water. 54 and you will drink as the lapping of thirsty camels. 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Judgement. 56 We have created you, so why do you not believe? 57 So what is your opinion regarding the semen you discharge? 58 Is it you who create it - or are We the source of its creation? 59 It is We who have ordained death for all of you; and We cannot be prevented 60 To transfigure you and create you in (forms) that you know not. 61 You have known the first growth; so why will you not remember? 62 Have you considered the soil you till? 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder, 65 [Saying], "Indeed, we are [now] in debt; 66 Rather, we have been deprived." 67 Have you considered the water that you drink? 68 Send it down ye from the raincloud, or are We the Sender down? 69 If We willed, surely We would make it brackish. Wherefore give ye not thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire that you kindle. 71 Is it you who have brought into being the tree that serves as its fuel - or are We the cause of its coming into being? 72 We have made it as a reminder of hell and as a utility for travellers in the jungle. 73 Extol, then, the limitless glory of thy Sustainer's mighty name! 74
