Thamud (people) belied the Messenger. 141 Recall when their brother Salih said to them: "Have you no fear?" 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 "So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 145 Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] -- 146 "In gardens and springs. 147 and cornfields, and palm-trees laden with fruit -- 148 "And ye carve houses out of (rocky) mountains with great skill. 149 So fear Allah, and obey me. 150 And do not obey the bidding of the extravagant, 151 Who spread corruption in the earth, and reform not. 152 They replied: "You are nothing but one of those who are bewitched; 153 You are a mere mortal like us. Show us a miracle if you are telling the Truth". 154 Salih said: "This is a she-camel. There is a day set for her to drink and there is a day set for you to drink. 155 And touch her not with ill lest there come on you the retribution of an awful day. 156 They slew the she-camel, but later became regretful 157 So the torment took hold of them: verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 158 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 159
