Elucidated (Fussilat)

54 verses, revealed in Mecca after Forgiver (Ghaafer) before Consultation (Al-Shooraa)

In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful

HaMeem. 1 A Revelation from (Allah), Most Gracious, Most Merciful;- 2 A Book the verses of which are explained in detail, the Qur’an in Arabic for people of intellect. 3 Giving glad tidings and heralding warning; so most of them turned away, therefore they cannot listen (to the truth). 4 and so they say, [as it were:] "Our hearts are veiled from whatever thou callest us to, [O Muhammad,] and in our ears is deafness, and between us and thee is a barrier. Do, then, [whatever thou wilt, whereas,] behold, we shall do [as we have always done]!" 5 (Muhammad), say, "I am a mere mortal like you. I have received a revelation that your Lord is the only One. So be up-right and obedient to Him and seek forgiveness from Him. Woe to the pagans, 6 [and] those who do not spend in charity: for it is they, they who [thus] deny the truth of the life to come! 7 But those who believe and do the right, will have a continuing reward. 8
