The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the Mount (Sinai), 1 And by the Book Inscribed. 2 on parchment for distribution, 3 Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! 4 The roof raised high, 5 By the sea overflowing. 6 the torment of your Lord will inevitably take place 7 No one can avert it. 8 On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion 9 And the mountains will move with a visible movement. 10 So on that day, ruin is for those who deny. 11 Those who in wading sport themselves. 12 on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] 13 “This is the fire, which you used to deny!” 14 Is it magic then or do you not see? 15 "Burn ye therein: the same is it to you whether ye bear it with patience, or not: Ye but receive the recompense of your (own) deeds." 16 Surely the godfearing shall be in gardens and bliss, 17 rejoicing in all that their Sustainer will have granted them: for their Sustainer will have warded off from them all suffering through the blazing fire. 18 'Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working. 19 reclining on couches [of happiness] ranged in rows!" And [in that paradise] We shall mate them with companions pure, most beautiful of eye. 20 And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. 21 And We shall bestow on them, of fruit and meat, anything they shall desire. 22 There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. 23 ۞ They will be waited upon by immortal youths, like pearls hidden in their shells. 24 And one of them turned towards the other, questioning. 25 Saying: Surely we feared before on account of our families: 26 But God has granted us favors and saved us from the scorching heat of the torment. 27 "Truly, we did call unto Him from of old: truly it is He, the Beneficent, the Merciful!" 28
