The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Was there a period of time when man was not even worthy of a mention? 1 We created the human being from the union of sperm and egg to test him. We gave him hearing and vision. 2 Surely We have shown him the way: he may be thankful or unthankful. 3 We have indeed kept prepared chains, and shackles and a blazing fire for the disbelievers. 4 The virtuous ones will drink from a cup containing camphor 5 a fountain whereat drink the servants of God, making it to gush forth plenteously. 6 They fulfil their pledges, and fear a day the evil of which is widespread. 7 And they give food, inspite of their love for it (or for the love of Him), to Miskin (poor), the orphan, and the captive, 8 (Saying): "We feed you for the sake of God, desiring neither recompense nor thanks. 9 We are afraid of our Lord and the bitterly distressful day". 10 But Allah will deliver them from the evil of that Day, and will shed over them a Light of Beauty and (blissful) Joy. 11 and will reward them for all their patience in adversity with a garden [of bliss] and with [garments of] silk. 12 In that [garden] they will on couches recline, and will know therein neither [burning] sun nor cold severe, 13 The shades of Paradise will bend over them, and its fruits will be brought within their easy reach; 14 and there shall be passed around them vessels of silver and goblets of crystal, 15 goblets of silver that they have precisely measured. 16 and they will be given a cup to drink flavoured with ginger, 17 (The water of) a spring therein, named Salsabil. 18 ۞ There boys of everlasting youth shall go about attending them: when you see them, you would think that they are scattered pearls. 19 wherever you look, you will see bliss and a great kingdom: 20 In it they adorn clothes of fine green silk and gold embroidery; and they are given silver bracelets to wear; and their Lord gave them pure wine to drink. 21 This will be their reward and their efforts will be appreciated. 22
